When it comes to Turkey and places to visit, Istanbul usually takes the spotlight, however, Ankara also has plenty of gems and treasures for international students to explore and discover during their study time here.

Kızılay

Kızılay is located in Çankaya district in Ankara and is the buzzing heart of the city. Kızılay caters to many tastes and preferences, you can choose to enjoy a cup of tea, go shopping, or enjoy a read in the park. Kızılay also includes a park called Güvenpark where one can sit back and enjoy the greenery and observe the hustle and bustle of the square.

Kızılay is also suitably situated near metro stations, bus terminals, and dolmus stops making it easily accessible to students.

Tunalı Hilmi Caddesi

Just a couple of kilometers away from the busy center, Kızılay, is Tunalı Hilmi Caddesi. This is a great place to start the weekend with to meet and catch up with your friends and explore the many artistic and unique concept cafes run by locals. Tunalı Hilmi Caddesi has cafes, restaurants, and shops for you to explore and discover with ranging prices and tastes to cater to different styles and budgets.

Kuğulu Park

Situated within Tunalı Hilmi Caddesi is Kuğulu Park which is a must-visit for all. The park has swans and ducks and a small cafe where one can enjoy the greenery in the middle of the city. It is a great place to unwind and enjoy feeding the birds and swans whilst having tea or coffee.

Anıtkabir

As an international living in Ankara, Anıtkabir is a must-visit for all. This is the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic. This is a great place to get to know Turkey and its culture and history. The landscape and architecture of Anıtkabir express the greatness and the value of the founder of the Republic and allows visitors to enjoy great open space with open-air performances.

Hamamönü

Ankara is often experienced through modern buildings and architecture, however, Hamamönü offers residents of Ankara a great sneak peek into its history and culture with hints of the late Ottoman era. Hamamönü is also a touristic landmark with its cultural and artistic narrow streets offering visitors small shops of souvenirs and gifts for them to buy. Hamamönü is also rich with handicrafts and handmade items for people to buy which also promotes the cultural value of the district.
